Eggares

Eggares

The village of Eggares is the richest lowland village of Naxos. Most of the products produced here, feed the entire island as a large and fertile valley with many streams and horticultural crops lies on its feet. In addition it is a central junction for the road from Chora to Eggares and Apollonas.

The village is full of beautiful and bright colors. It is not a coincidence that Nikos Kazantzakis refers to this village as the "paradise on earth" in his book "Report to Greco". At the village center, the stone-built square is dominating, in the center of which, the visitor will encounter the church, dedicated to the Assumption of Virgin Mary.

Within a short distance from the village, the Ammiti beach is ideal for relaxing dips in the blue of the Aegean as well as romantic sunsets, since the beach remains unspoiled from touristic influences. Visitors can enjoy the great food served by the local taverns and their hospitality will not be forgotten.
