Built amphitheatrically on the foothills of Mount Zas, the history of the village Danakos goes back in centuries as there are references to it in Homer and Thucydides.

According to the tradition, it is one of the oldest villages of the island, famous for its waters running continuously along the entire village. The existence of these water springs makes the place temperate, full of trees and vegetation. Sycamores, oaks, orange and sour orange trees dominate the landscape and fill the sky with colors and fragrances.

The inhabitants in order to thank God for the inexhaustible sources that give life to this unique place, dedicated the village’s church ton Zoodochus’ Pigi (source).
