Agios Thaleleos (Saint Thaleleos)

Agios Thaleleos (Saint Thaleleos)

The small settlement of St.Thaleleos is located 5 km away from Naxos Town and is one of the 4 villages of the municipal district of Melanes. It’s a small, picturesque village with a few permanent residents. Their main activity is still agriculture and the visitor can admire a beautiful valley with orchards in front of the village.

The village got its name from the namesake Saint, who was a doctor in ancient times and was healing the faithful people (believers) without taking money. He is celebrated on May 20th with a big festival, which takes place in the courtyard of the church which is dedicated for his sake.

The biggest attraction of the village is the old aqueduct, parts of which survive intact to this day, reminding the visitor its imposing presence during the era of Tyrant Lygdamis, when it supplied the main village from the source of Flerios.
