Monastery of Agios Ioannis Chrisostomos

Monastery of Agios Ioannis Chrisostomos

On the northeast side of Naxos Τown stands the monastery of Monastery of Agios Ioannis Chrisostomos (St. John Chrisostomos). It is located in a prominent, amphitheatrical location, allowing the visitor to admire the view of the endless blue of the Aegean and to feel closer to God through the magnificence of nature.

The monastery operates for more than seven centuries (dating back to 1280) as a feminine communal monastery, never ceasing the worship of the monks, not even during wars.
Inside the monastery the wooden temple, decorated with many Byzantine icons, stands out.
Unique is also the image of St. John Chrysostomos, which represents him seated on a throne, holding on his chest a piece of the Holy relic, dating back to 1818.
